Another trip to Allegheny smoke works, the guy there Mike has a lot of patience with my questions and helps me pick out some blends to try, with my first trip there I have found that I got samples of some aromatics, some Burleys and some english blends, 2 different samples of each style of blend, and I have a taste for the english blends I kind of fell in love with Peter Stokkebye's English Proper so today while I was there I picked up 2 oz. of that and he put togther another set of samples to try other English Blends
I now have samples of

Estoerica: Hastings

Samuel Gawith: Squadron Leader

a #503 Heavy English not sure of the brand

Dunhill: my mixture 965

McC ,Virginian flake and Perique , I can't find a listing for this blend on tobacco reviews unless it is 2015 virginian flake , the only one I could find that comes in bulk

any tips or thoughts on any of these blends? remember I am new to this "hobby" but I love to learn new things,

I'm still trying to find my "taste" for blends so any suggestions for blends I might want to try would be appreciated, I have been smoking cigars for a good while now and tend to like full body full flavored cigars, and I'm thinking I would like the same kind of mouth feel and flavor in my pipe tobacco the "proper English" has been described as medium body and flavor and I did like that, so I am aiming for tobaccos from the medium to full categories.
Thanks Everyone, I think I'm going to go try this McC blend out.... happy puffing and thanks in advnace

McClellands 2010: Straight VA Flake

McClellands 2015: VA and Perique

One does not need another tobacco

Well...maybe Sammy G's Full Va Flake and St. James Flake, both can be a pain to find.

But no more

I quess John Patton's Cool Hand Fluke, a VA/Perique or Quadruple VA (this tobacco is for adults only).

But no more... 8)

It's 2015.
Thanks for your input, I'm new at pipe smoking, I wouldn't say that I "loved" the 2015, but I wouldn't say I disliked it, plus the fact i have never "rubbed" out flakes b4, and also I still don't think I have the "pack" down to anything consistent, I try not to be Overly technical about the whole deal, and just try and relax and enjoy it, there were a few puffs I thought had a lively taste and some others I thought could have been better.... I don't blame the tobacco, I think I just need more practice and to discover what will work best for me.

Thanks'

That's a nice assortment but to that you need to add:

McC's Virginia Woods

McC's Blackwoods Flake

McC's Fragrant Matured 2000 ( bulk)

and to cap off the evening:

Dunhill's Royal Yacht

JMHO

Ribbon cut I pack down well, but flake I don't pack hardly at all just a little pressure is enough to get it ready to smoke generally. You'll dig the 965, well I do anyhow. McC 5110 is darn good stuff too.

Yeah i know i have a lot to learn about the different types and cuts off tobacco, but even with the fumbling around I'm doin now I am enjoying this journey, with practice and some learned knowledge it can only get better, right?

That's a positive sign regarding the quality/honesty of the tobacconists when they sell you MC 2015 and tell you what it really is. Most of the time they give it some different name, sell it as their shop blend, and up the price.

Sounds like Altadis #503 Heavy English.

Mind if I ask what they charged for this, Squadron Leader, and the MM965?

I wish I could tell you Aristokles, but I declined my receipt, although he didn't charge me for the #503 heavy English it was the last oz or so in the jar he didn't have another bag and he said he thought it felt a lil dry so he gave it to me. next time I am going down there I will let you know and I can get some prices on stuff for you if you want.

Sounds like you got a good selection of tobacco there. Enjoy them.

Allegheny. Sounds like you're not too far from me. I'm outside of the Buffalo area.

Thanks for the offer. If you remember to check for me, great; if not, no problem. With our growing Pittsburgh presence here I may as well quit being so sedentary and actually show up at the monthly smokers' gathering there. I'm sure we'll all eventually connect.

Given your taste in cigars, there are three I'm familiar with in your target area.

1) Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake. Note : at least two years' tin time. It takes it that long to ripen.

2) McClelland Dominican Glory Maduro. A bit on the sweet side as an all-day smoke, but deep, dark & rich.

3) Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake. This used to be utopia in a tin but the last three or four tins (several years ago) were excessively sweet (chocolate). Your mileage may (and probably will) vary, but those are good jumping off points.

FWIW

Stop making me want to buy tobacco. Stop it.

Allegheny Smokeworks is where I go too. His SG prices are around $5.75 an ounce.

Thanks. That seems in line I think. But...ouch anyway.

Pittsburghers abound here. Great.
