What 5 bands would you only smoke if you only had 5 to choose from? I think I would have to go with, in this order:

1) Sutliff
2) Tewksbury
3) Boswell
4) Lane
5) McClelland

Z

1.  GLP
2.  C&D
3.  Rattray's (for HOTW)
4.  Dan (for Hamborger Veermaster)
5.  Eh...that's enough.

1. GLP
2. McClelland
3. Germain/Esoterica
4. Sam Gawith
5. Gawith Hoggarth

1. McCelland's
2. Dunhill's
3. Orlik
4. Sutliff
5. Rattray's
These are in order of preference

Does Dunhill make an Aro?

Hard to choose just 5, but here goes (not in order of preference)-

1. GLP
2. C&D
3. McC
4. Sammy G
5. P&W

Plenty of others, but these seem to get the most action right now.

Cheers,

RR

Not anymore, though they did back in the early 80's a Black Cavendish based one which was pretty good though not really an American PG topped style it was still an Aro. It was called Black Aromatic and was blended by Murray's . Here's a pic of the tin. It's in the center at bottom:

In order (I think)
McClellands
Jf Germains
C&D
Peter Stokkebye
esoterica

Hearth and Home
Peter Stokkebye
C&D
MacBaren
Orlik

These are listed in terms of smoking frequency. I will admit I have an eye to value and availability in my choices.

GH
SG
Germain
Ogden -- or whoever actually makes St Bruno

4 is enough!

hummm..

Peterson
MacBaren
dunhill
C&D
GLP

in no particular order

McCranie's Red Flake
McClelland Mature Va.'s # 25
McClelland Bulk Va.'s 2000, 2010, 2015, 2035, 5100
OGS
GH Lakelands: Bosun Cut Plug, Grasmere, Dark Plug, Dark Flake (S)

I'm sorry but I can't survive with just 5 kinds of tobacco. That's why I have so many varieties in my stash. :)

Interesting question because it doesn't ask the standard "what 5 tobaccos would you want on a desert island", but what brands would you support if you could choose only the brands and not focus on individual tobaccos. The answer would be much different than what tobaccos would I pick, and for different reasons.

1. GL Pease, because there is no more creative blender, cooler dude, and all around great guy making tobacco for us. The pipe hobby world is in debt to Greg, we are damned lucky to have him. If I could only support one brand it would undoubtedly be GL Pease.

2. Gawith, Hoggarth and co. An old English firm that has done a fine job of holding fast to the traditional old blends they've been producing, as they've been producing them, for many, many decades.

3. McClelland. Great innovators of great American tobaccos!

4. Stokkebye. Bringing affordable Northern European tobacco styles to America, with a lot of innovation and variety, for a long time.

5. Samuel Gawith. FVF, MVF, Squadron Leader, nuff said.

1.) Escudo
2.) Escudo
3.) DDNR :suspect:
4.) Escudo
5.) Escudo

1) McClelland - Honestly I could probably make do with just their blends if I had to.
2) GL Pease - Great blends, great guy. He is an asset to the pipe smoking community for sure.
3) MacBaren - Don't want to be without ODF and Capstan.
4) Wessex - Love the dark flake in their Campaign series.
5) Sam Gawith - Classic British blends.

2.) STG
3.) DUNHILL
4.) STG
5.) STG

Okay! Ya happy now? Gees
