Like I said it was Puff Daddy's Idea Kyle, and I agreed if anyone has a eye for a funky pipe it is you

Apparently I got dragged into this little experiment, as I got a surprise in my mailbox.

Thanks, BC!

I'll have to clean it up and post a few pictures myself, but I have to admit, it does look like a classy fella's dope pipe.

Will it smoke to any satisfaction?   Range report to follow.   I'll do anything at least once.

Complains about getting a free pipe, what gratitude!
Hey Kyle! Got a brand new rope to hang ya with, what ya think?

Natch was the resident Kirsten user on the board. He knew of a member that made bowls for Kirsten pipes. The name was Mike Brissitt. Anybody know of him?

:santa: :santa:

Mike Brisset is a pipe maker in (I believe) Wisconsin. Used to be a good deal of chatter about his pipes and several guys here raved about them. Have not heard mention of him in some time.

There's a guy selling custom pipe bowls for Kirsten pipes on ebay. They're a little pricey and do not come with the metal hardware needed to attach them to the pipe (you'd have to have an old bowl that you could canabalize for the hardware).

Got mine today & after a quick clean up and a bowl polish it's ready for its maiden voyage. I plan on smoking it tonight.

Thanks again BC! :D

"I set you up with my sister, my SISTER, and you complain?   Even if she's missing an eye and a leg, and cuts her own hair with a butter knife?  You BASTARD! (but she has a winning personality)..."

I said "Thank You" already, so hush.    I also said I'd try smoking it, so double-hush.  Plus, I've told people to quit sending me pipes randomly.  This wasn't a joke, I meant it.  I'm full-up on pipes and have enough for a lifetime.   Probably gonna give away a lot of 'em soon.

After a thorough cleaning (which was quite easy), I noticed a very bizarre scent in the bowl.   Normally when I get estate pipes, I put a match or a lighter to the inside to see what ghosts will come out scent-wise.   This has saved me from buying pipes infected with some joker's bright idea to use the pipe for Mary-Jane.   While no Em-Jay was detected in this pipe, I swear whoever owned it was smoking chili peppers and mint leaves.   Darndest scent I've ever had come forth from a pipe bowl.   I'm afraid to smoke it as-is, and haven't quite devised a way to salt-n-soak the sucker in alcohol.   Might have to either pass this one on to a genuine-collector or come up with a brilliant way to rid the Kirsten of the fact that Peter Piper picked a peck of peppers and mint and went to town on the thing one harvest season.

The bowl of my pipe smelled like one I had in the car and used to smoke SWR. I cleaned things compulsively, but at the end of my first couple of bowls of Old Companion, I got a SWR flavor blast for a puff or two.

I definitely got a sweet OTC burley odor from mine. The odor also reminded me of a dry toast snuff I enjoy, albeit a touch sweeter. I was going to attempt to cleanse it with a straight VA but perhaps I'll neutralize it with a few rounds of Carter Hall.

Well I smoked English Oriental Supreme in mine so the latakia killed off any ghosts that may have been lingering. Detected nothing offensive. I did give the bowl a short alchohol soak and good reaming, so I may have exorcised any evil spirits before the latakia was called in for the coup de gras.

The packing and tobacco choice for this large bore conical bowl will take some experimenting. I don't concur with the pack it tight theory. At least with that particular tobacco.

The bowl shapes on these are quite perplexing. Gonna be interesting.

Hey P.D.

I'm still around, still carving pipes, and still making bowls for the Kirstens.

I have a group of bowls carved that need to be finished and polished, so if there is any interest, I will go ahead with them and try to get some pictures posted in the commercial section later this week.

Regards,
Mike Brissett

O Methods, complicated lady of fancies, doth ye never cease? :sigh: :p

Hell yes Mike. Let us/me know when you get that done as I am definitely interested.

Hey Mike! Sounds great!  I knew you were a member here but couldn't remember your username. Didn't find a website when I googled you. I'm betting there will be some interest :)

I just realized the Kirsten with the meerschaum bowl has a twin bore stem!

Received mine on Saturday.....thanks Harry!

No need for me to do anything about the bowl. It's perfect with no fillings and n cake. All I had to do was run a pipe cleaner dipped in surgical spirits through it and ...Bob's you uncle.

I packed it with some of a local brand called Assegai (spear). The draw is somewhat restricted for my taste as I'm used to wide open airways. But after some adjustment to my smoking, I'm enjoying my newest addition to my flock. The bowl is conic but I find no problem with that. And I've got something to show off with at our next club meeting !!!

Thanks once more Harry

I'm still afraid to try mine, at least until I find out a way to de-stink the bowl a little. I also noticed the briar stain is sensitive; I had red-colored alcohol at the base when I was cleaning the airway... Hrm... ...gonna be a challenge.
