I just saw this at the local B&M today they have it in bulk, I never noticed this looking at the e-tailers before, has anyone had it and does it compare to the flakes in the tins?

I haven't had the RR version, but having prepared the flake in a variety of ways it is so much more enjoyable to me folded and stuffed that I couldn't possibly consider purchasing anything other than the flake variety. I would rather have options with with a tobacco like ODF (folded, cubed, ruffed up) but to my taster folded is best.

I have been smoking the flake. Bought a pound just a month ago and usually mix in something that has a wee bit of sweetness. If you dial up TobaccoReviews and select this specific tobacco the very first reviewer, DK, is my go to reviewer. He has in excess of 450 reviews and reflects a history of taste distinction ever evolving.
I like the flake with a little something added as I stated. By itself I find it austere but that said it is the only MacB that I can manage without tongue fry.

I'm smoking ODF as I type, and I've also smoked the ready rubbed version. It's the same tobacco and flavor profile, of course, but I must admit I thought the flake to be slightly richer and more pleasurable. I don't think it's my imagination, either. I think the ready rubbed loses a slight impact because more of the tobacco is exposed to air. Now, I admit the difference is maybe 5%, and probably no more than that, but that's how the difference struck me. In a blind taste test, I doubt most ODF smokers would notice much, if any, difference, except maybe for a very experienced ODF smoker.

I haven't tried the RR version yet and am having a tough time enjoying the Flake recently. I am finding it a bit too full for my liking lately so I've put it away for a while. Must be getting wimpy or something LOL. Guess I'll break out the McClelland Dark Navy Flake. :pale:

Thanks Guys! I think I may have to give the RR a go, most flakes I seem to enjoy rubbed out anyways

I agree with you, Andy.

I bought a few tins of ODF when it first came out -- couldn't wait to pop a tin and then... meh. The ODF did improve considerably after letting the opened tin sit a couple weeks, and I did finish it. I plan to let the other tins sit in the cellar for a couple or three years.
