Years ago, or it might have been yesterday, I recall some mention of repairing a crack by using a mixture of cigar ashes & a liquid. Can any of you folks fill in the blanks for me? I have a McCranies with a blast that has a crack measuring app; one inch that I would love to attempt a repair. The crack is cosmetic & does not go through to the inside of the bowl. Thanks one & all.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the repair was intended for a small crack on the inside of the bowl. Something that would eventually be covered over by the cake. Or so my memory recalls (which is a very poor standard of reference!).

A crack all the way through the bowl? It's time to honorably retire the pipe, if a friend, or commit it to firewood, if it was junk.

Actually he said it didn't go through to the bowl. Purely cosmetic. :D
