    Looking for some advice/ideas.

Sorry to be late on this post, but it's been a long, long time since I've been on the site. Not because I'm anti-social, but just socially inept. I don't do well with crowds. Anyway, I'm just sticking my two cents in. Not as a suggestion, but just an opinion. BriarBabe, Do what you like to do...

    What are you drinking?

Greetings all, hope all are safe and well and life gives a fair shake to those in need. I am working on the second bottle of an extremely inexpensive bottle of Sheffield Marsala. My only night offf of the week and something to help sleep. I just found this wonderous fluid a few weeks ago and...

What makes a pipe a good pipe?

Sorry, one more thing, thanks Bruin for the link, BeeBiz has it down now. That's the fun and pleasures of smoking a pipe, all the tobaccos in the world want a place to be needed too. They just want a home in the right pipe, just as a pipe wants a home with the right pipe smoker. Sorry, wordy...

What makes a pipe a good pipe?

Hey there all, finally got time to get back on. Hope all are well and life gives a fair shake to those in need. I believe there isn't a wrong answer to the question. All are right in their answers. Whatever makes a certain pipe good to you may not apply to many (or any) others. What ever makes...

What makes a pipe a good pipe?

Does paying $1000 for a pipe make it a better smoke, or better tasting, or better manufacturing compared to that $20 basket pipe? Ok, let's assume that the details to the draw hole is better, the briar is 100 years older, someone spent hours of time putting just the right touches on the stem and...

Tobacconists in Cape Town and surrounds.

Piet, and RobT, I am so sorry to hear the difficulties to get good tobacco where you are. Here I am, grumbling about the taxes our fearful leader here in the States is imposing, and never knew it could be that much worse in other countries. I have to thank the stars it has not come to that point...

    Anyone ever tin tobacco themselves?

Just as an afterthought, you can keep the can slightly loose and heat it up a tad with the heat gun, you don't have to go crazy with the heat, just hot enough to expand the air inside a bit and seep out. Then close quickly, put the shrink band on, heat that snug. When it cools there should be a...

    Anyone ever tin tobacco themselves?

Greetings Wet Dottle, you wrote: Let's see, I don't think I have been able to keep them longer than 2 years as friends keep buying them up from me. (Just for what I have invested in it at the time) But from what I've seen and heard, and tasted, I don't think anything was lost, such as taste or...

    Anyone ever tin tobacco themselves?

Glad to help out! I use the plain pop on type and the shrink sleeves. It works out best for me, but there is a good selection of different types that may work as well for others.

    Anyone ever tin tobacco themselves?

Greetings all! I have been packing and sealing my own tins for a couple of years now. Mostly just to store my own hybrid blend I make. I do use a smaller tin to give a sample away now and then to friends. I use a food grade round tin that is listed as an 8 ounce tin and is perfect to hold 50...

Rubber gasket. . . can you taste it after a while?

Morning all. Thanks for the input, I believe it's finally time for me to start storing for the long term. Especially with all the hullaballoo on the taxes. The largest canning jars I have seen around here are the quart size, and not very often. Do they have them any larger with the wide mouth...

Rubber gasket. . . can you taste it after a while?

Thanks so much for the replies. Just got home from long night at work and enjoyed a bowl full of CAO's Bella Vanilla, complimentary tin from the 2010 Chicago Pipe Show, (first time attender) and few fingers of Clan McGregor (for medicinal purposes only, sleep aid you know). First time tried it...

Rubber gasket. . . can you taste it after a while?

Greetings all! Just asking a quick question before hitting the sack. For all those out there using the mason jars and ball jars with rubber seals.. after a few years or many years of storage, does it seem like any rubber taste or smell imparts into the tobacco when popped open and smelled or...

Can't find info on 1914 small Dunhill

Greetings, I'm so glad you brought that up. I actually had done more scrounging and found an article by Michael Friedberg on that very subject right before I hit the sack yesterday. Just in case, here is the link to that: http://www.loringpage.com/attpipes/xgum.htm which by the way is on a...
