Hate vulcanite stems. I tolerate them on old English pipes because I love their aesthetic, but I am at an absolute loss as to why someone would actually want a stem that requires near constant maintenance to keep from turning green and smelling foul.

The mouthfeel argument carries no weight with me. I use softy bits on all my pipes whether acrylic or vulcanite because I am a clencher and prefer how they feel to a naked stem. When they get old I toss them out and replace them. Cost 25 cents — and my stems stay free of tooth marks.

I’m sure I just kicked a hornet’s nest 😔
Most of my pipes are estates so I think that's why I like vulcanite. But, I use softy bits too, lol. Every single one of my pipes, even my cobs have a softy bit. I buy the "Softy Bit" brand now because they are cheaper by the dozen.

It’s funny. I’ve gotten so used to smoking with softy bits that it feels uncomfortable when I try to smoke a pipe that doesn’t have one. Strange how we acclimate to unnecessary things in our life, so much so that their absence causes discomfort

Savinelli 101 punto oro classic with some Scottish Flake and an Americano. A good morning

Good morning everybody.
During my last two weeks of non smoking. I took the opportunity to deepclean a bucket of old pipes I either had given to me, or purchased by Mrs Z at a junk shop down in the nearest town. So after the salt and alcohol treatment, and sterilisation and polishing of the stems. Ive picked out a few for this weeks rotation. And so today im going to start with this old boy, simply marked as Pipemaster. I know nothing about it, other than its a rusticated briar, and has a vulcanite stem, that was exceptionally gunky. Im not even sure of the shape, but it's not quite a sitter. Anyway im going to fill it with some Charatans first bowl, and give it a Zippo Pufferation, and see how it smokes.
As always my friends, I wish you all an awesome day.

Bit of a late Dinner tonight, which gives me the chance to have a leisurely smoke of Rangers Urban Cowboy in a Savinelli Hercules 611EX. The cough is holding off so far. Thanks to the medicinal wonders of certain beverage from Tennessee 😁. I hope everyone is having a great day 😀 View attachment 16909
Tennessee? Brother, you need to get back on the Kentucky Straight and narrow!

Good morning my fellow BoBs. Sitting on the patio with wifey and the pups. Augie in my lap, Charlie in hers, Molly laying on the rug. A very pleasant 54 and sunny. Enjoying CS Cowboy Coffee in the Butz Choquin magnum bent brandy with cowboy coffee. 🤠 Easy day planned. Will try to knock out a few things on the honey do list, lol.

Finished the CS Cowboy Coffee. Now Finishing Zippos Condor in the Sav Sherwood I DGTd from last night. Have a great day my friends.
I had my first Condor moment Saturday. After I had my first Condor nap. It knocked my duck in the dirt. First time in a long time that happened.

Passing the half way mark of this bowl of pre-2014 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Watching Mad Dog Russo. No walks today due to rain.
