New to cigars and wondering where to start

A friend of mine is interested in making cigars his new hobby. He has had more experience in smoking them than I do, but is still pretty much a novice. He asked if I'd like to tag along on this "smoking adventure" and I agreed. I've little to no experience in cigars at all, the exception...

    Bowl coating wearing off

Thanks. I've been smoking it since I noticed the issue and a little bit more has worn off. Oh well.

    Sam Gawith Full Virginia Flake

I just bought a tin of FVF and I was surprised to see it came in little sliced cakes. Being a new smoker, how should I break apart the tobacco? Cut it up? Pick it apart into individual leaf shreds? Is there any issue with storing it if I want to pre-separate the tobacco for a quick smoke...

How much smoke when you puff?

I see. Glad to know I'm not far off the mark in doing this. I did read the article on breath smoking and it seems interesting. I'll give it a try with my next bowl. Thanks.

How much smoke when you puff?

How much and how thick is the smoke when you puff? When lighting up, I can get a nice thick cloud to billow out from my mouth, but that drops off a lot afterwards. I've learned to slow down my puffing pace, but then subsequent puffs produce thin wispy smoke. I have to puff several times...

    Bowl coating wearing off

The black coating in the bowl of my Gardensana mini-churchwarden is falling off. I noticed this when I last cleaned the pipe. I read the coating is supposed to reduce or eliminate the break-in time. With some of the exposed wood in the bowl, should I just scrape off the rest of the coating...

Looking for a decent 2nd pipe.

I got my new Savinelli Toscana and Gardensana mini-churchwarden today. I tried the Gardensana with some Peterson Gold Blend. It was quite pleasant and I was able to reduce my puffing pace a lot and keep the bowl cooler. No gurgling encountered. The nice small bowl is perfect for short...

Looking for a decent 2nd pipe.

I found a Salvinelli Toscana model I liked a lot. Not a churchwarden, but the shape is nice and I really like the grain of the wood. I also stumbled across the "Frank Method" of packing the pipe. Looks a tad complicated, but looks worth a try. Perhaps that'll enable me to go longer between...

Looking for a decent 2nd pipe.

Hi folks, I've been reading about tobacco ghosts and dedicating one pipe for one type of tobacco. I only have one aromatic blend from the local tobacconist and that's what's used in my one and only pipe: a Missouri cob. I'm interested in a decent pipe (probably briar) that won't be too...

    Greetings!

Hello everyone! I've been lurking on this interesting forum and learning much about the elegance of pipe smoking for some time now. Finally decided to join and be an active member. I've recently bought a Missouri Meerschaum corn cob pipe as my first one, and picked up an ounce of a custom...
