    Vermont Freehand pipes

I own a sandblasted Norsedog. They are made by Briarworks as Sasquatch says. My Norsedog is a great little smoker. It is not too thin-walled. It's a relatively small pipe - I'd say a group 3 with a group 2 sized tobacco chamber. Smokes Va. flakes like a champ.

    gap between shank and stem

Wood shrinks when dry and expands when moist. Pipemakers that know what they are doing, leave a slight gap between the end of the tenon and the bottom of the mortise to accommodate natural swelling of the mortise floor. As mentioned, best bet is to measure the mortise depth and compare it to...

Anyone here ever made pickled peppers?

I'd like to know too, Brewdude. I can pickles and green beans every year. I grow banana peppers every year too but haven't found a recipe I like yet.

    fear the walking dead

Second episode is definitely better. The fact that they aren't showing a lot of zombies kinda lends to the sense of confusion of what's going on that folks at ground zero probably feel. The lack of gore makes sense too because they wouldn't be hard core this early on. In fact, I thought the...

    fear the walking dead

I'm with you Briar Spirit. I'm a big Walking Dead fan. I read the comics before the show ever aired. I was thoroughly disappointed with the Fear the Walking Dead premiere. I'm holding on hopes that they are using the same principle that the comic book used over and over of lulling the...

Scary event going on right now!

Had a theft/standoff in my old neighborhood several years ago. SWAT team pumped the house full of tear gas and concussion grenades and rammed the SWAT van through the garage. Nearly destroyed the house. Crazy world we live in. Desperate people can do desperate things.

"The Ketchup Smell" - McClelland Red Va Blends

Great thread! 5100 and McCranie's Red Ribbon are two of my favorite tobaccos and I smoke them a lot. I wouldn't expect no difference between the two though. I don't think they are an equal substitution. In my very humble opinion, McCranie's is a top shelf version of 5100. I like it better...

    A couple of retort questions.

Hello Tim, I use a retort on occasion but mostly to clean extremely dirty or new to me estates to sanitize them. I've also used a retort on a couple occassions to remove ghosts when switching tobacco types in a pipe. I would never use a retort as a routine process on any pipe unless it was in...

    Pipe smoking myths about cleaning

I prefer my pipes "dirty." I call them well seasoned. My pipes are lucky to get a pipe cleaner passed through them after each smoke. I typically smoke two bowls a day out of the same pipe then rest it for several days. I only clean with spirits when they need it which in my opinion is maybe...
