How to get an hour from 3g of tobacco?

Thank you for the reply Kevin. I've not really tried crushing the tobacco yet but I am achieving an hour or more generally now, most times with only a char light and a proper light (no relights). I do break up any flakes in blends and remove "sticks". I find a breeze counter productive, it...

    Peterson Sunset Breeze... YUCK

It is one of my favourite tobaccos. Certainly in my top three. I liked it from the first smoke. Each to his own.

    Falcon Dry Rings

Are you placing the bare wire part of the dry ring in the draw hole? If not, the dry ring may be moving and obstructing the draw hole. Also, check the dry rings are not too fluffy. They may be after market ones and too large for the available space. Brian

    Dual Bore Pipe?

Thank you, some good material there. On face value, it looks like snake oil. Brian

    Dual Bore Pipe?

Thank you, and Dave, for the responses. Sorry, I'm still not clear in my mind: Does the dual bore in this case simply mean one bore 'split' at the button or is the split somewhere closer to the stummel or in the stummel. As Dave posted, it sounds like a gimmick but I'm prepared to learn...

    Dual Bore Pipe?

I've seen references to dual bore pipes but, other than guessing at what it could mean, I'm in the dark. My guess is two bores from the bowel to the mouth piece but I can see no advantage in this and the mechanics of manufacture would seem difficult. Can someone enlighten me, please? Brian

How to get an hour from 3g of tobacco?

One step at a time ;-) I managed 50 mins yesterday, with Sunset Breeze but only 40mins this evening wing with a Cherry and Vanilla. I wasn't especially 'going for time' but I think the 'pace' was about the same. Pipes were similar but not identical.

    Pipe finish 'bubbling'

Thank you for the advice, I think I will give the wax a try. In time I hope to try my hand at pipe making ( for personal use, I don't aspire to your level), so this can be a starting exercise. Brian.

    Pipe finish 'bubbling'

Pipe is an Adsorba 217, not an expensive pipe but one I enjoy smoking. In a couple of spots, the finish is bubbling, almost as if paint stripper had been applied to it. The pipe is ' rested' between smokes, at least 24 hours. It isn't over caked, just a light layer. No sign of burning in the...

How to get an hour from 3g of tobacco?

I agree that enjoyment should be the aim, otherwise what is the point of smoking a pipe! However, I'm blessed/cursed with a sense of curiosity which is rarely satisfied, plus I had considered trying one of these competitions at some point. While I take on board your point re flake, in...

How to get an hour from 3g of tobacco?

Thank you for the response. Perhaps I need to 'watch' some others smoke, which I've never really done, and see what 'pace' they have. I tend to smoke mainly at home (but outdoors) but have been meaning to visit the Pipe Club of London- Pipe Clubs are not so common in the UK and I haven't seen...

How to get an hour from 3g of tobacco?

I've been watching some of the pipe smoking competitions and confess to being impressed by the times people "squeeze" from 3g of tobacco. I don't pretend to be an expert on the competition rules so, if I have this incorrect be gentle, but it seems the basic idea is to see how long you can make...

    Zippo Tip

I appreciate that some frown on using a lighter to light a pipe but, for those like myself who like a trusty Zippo, here is something to prolong time between refuelling. I've always been frustrated by the way Zippos seem to allow fuel to evaporate when not in use and I've heard of people using...

I Tried A Carey Magic Inch

I am sure you are a far more experienced pipe smoker than myself but, having recently returned to pipe smoking via a Carey. I had some problems with 'draw' which I have cured. At first I put the problems down to inexperience but, after experimenting with a new packing technique (I had always...

Where do I recommend a shop to visit?

I'd like to recommend a shop in the UK which visitors from the USA may care to visit. I have no connection with the shop, other than having made a small purchase (under $50) and received excellent service and advice. They do not know I an making the recommendation. Such shops are rare in the...

    Pipe fiters.

That is a most informative site, thank you. Vauen pipes look rather interesting, oddly most of those for sale on Ebay UK seem to come from the US, not Europe which seems odd. The 'white spot' could be confused with the Dunhill white spot but a few of the pipes on Ebay seem to lack the spot...

    Pipe fiters.

I was lucky enough to be picking out a new pipe as a birthday present from my wife, and in the process was told be the retailer that 9 mm filters only remove water ( not tar or nicotine) from the smoke. This is a bit of a surprise to me but, being new to the game, I am happy to learn. Want do...
