Looking for a "zesty" "citrusy" or "lemon" Virginia flake

As far as Virginias go, I smoke Marlin Flake and SG FVF among other "darker" Virginias. I sometimes see yellow or golden Virginias described as being "zesty" or having a "citrus" or "lemon-like" flavor. Anyone suggest a Virginia flake with these attributes?

    Sillem's Commodore Flake

Has anyone tried Sillem's Commodore Flake?  Sounds like an interesting Latakia blend.  It's rather expensive and hard to find.  Is there an English blend similar to it?  I have been thinking about giving it a try, but trying to keep my TAD under control - I have a lifetime quantity of English...

    source of vintage tobaccos gone

The other day, I listed a vintage tin (early 80's) of Dunhill Elizabethan mixture on eBay. Shortly thereafter, eBay removed my posting. eBay sent me a message stating that, regardless of the collectability of a tin, it can not be sold on eBay if the brand is still in production. Now looking...

    Is www.thetntshoppe.com still open?

About a year or two ago, I ordered some Tambolaka stick from Indonesia www.thetntshoppe.com. I went to that website today to order some Tambo cigars and I discovered that is down. I don't know if they are still in business or if their website is under revision/maintenance. Does anyone know if...

    McCranie's Red Ribbon/Flake

I have read a review that claims McCranie's Red Flake/Ribbon is McClelland's 5100. Is this true? I do not want to pay the big bucks for tins that I have seen online for McCranie's Red if it is actually McClelland's 5100 tinned under another name.

    amount of Perique in VaPers

Over the past year I have been sampling various VaPers (Dunhill DNR, Escudo, etc.) and enjoyed them all. However, my palate must be much different than the dedicated VaPer smoker because I am not content with the amount of Perique in these blends. Smoking blends like DDNR or Escudo leaves me...

request recommendations for Syrian Latakia blends

Hello All, I am interested in purchasing English/Balkan blends containing Syrian Latakia.  I prefer my English/Balkan blends with a good dose of Latakia, so if you know of such blends, I would be grateful for your recommendations. So far, I have looked at Mac Baren HH Vintage Syrian...

passing a nicotine test to get a job?!

Hello, Has anyone been "drug-tested" for nicotine. I just interviewed for a job as a research director for a local hospital in the Detroit area. I can't believe that my employment was declined because I could not pass a nicotine test! I can understand banning smoking on the hospital campus...

    Pipe Chamber Diameter

Usually, the first thing I look for when I purchase a pipe is a large chamber diameter (at least 7/8ths of an inch). However, it seems that most pipes on the market have a chamber diameter that is smaller. Is there any advantage to using a pipe with a wide bowl versus using a pipe with a...

Recommendation for a pure burley flake tobacco

Hello, Can anyone suggest a 100% burley flake other than Solani's Aged Burley Flake.  I came across a series of four burley flakes from Cornell and Diehl, but they have virginias, some have perique.  Beside the drugstore tobaccos, I know nothing about pure burley flakes.

To what does KENDAL refer to?

I want to purchase some Gawith Hoggarth & Co. Kendal Kentucky. I see the word Kendal used quite a bit. Is it a flavoring added to the tobacco? Kendal Kentucky sounds good: 100% dark-fired Kentucky tobacco. But if there is any flavoring added to it, then I won't buy it. I do not like...

    frozen tobacco... still good?

I am in the process of moving and I have boxes of tobacco tins that I plan on storing temporarily in the garage. It will get below freezing soon and I am worried about my tobacco. I know that in order for tobaccos (especially Virginias) to age, they must have some moisture so that the enzymes...

    Mold in tobacco jars.

Hello, One of my favorite tobaccos is Gawith & Hoggarth and Dark Flake Unscented. About 18 months ago, I purchased a pound, split it in half, and placed the tobacco into two jars with a rubber seal. I finished one of the jars recently. When I went to open the second jar, I noticed a little...
