Part way through this bowl of year 2020 D&R VIP in a 2004 smooth long shank Trever Talbot Ligne Bretagne Faite en Bretagne 4/3 lumberman with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Daisy the Feral Princess and Tomato the Brave won't eat when the black cat (we have to find a name for him) is eating. They are always like that when another feral comes around. Playing traffic cop didn't work, durn it.

Midnight??

Good morning my friends, another scorching hot day here in old blighty. There is a weather warning for severe thunderstorms later today, which ain't going to please Frodo. They don't scare him, he just goes into close protection mode, and barks and growls at every thing 😅. I'm going to start my smokes by plugging a Petersons liscannor XL90 with some Charatans First Bowl, and wish you all a great day my friends.

I take one flake and strip it into 3mm or so sections, like string cheese. Maybe 5-7 strips? And then I crudely rub it out. I don't get too obsessive about it being perfectly rubbed out, because I don't want the collateral damage of tiny bits. I do sometimes just fold it, but not too often. As for moisture, I like it moist enough to be just a tad sticky on the fingers. A tad beyond squeeze and spring back. It's pretty moist, but obviously not so much that it is a struggle to keep it burning. I give a char light, tamp, and one more light. If I have it right, I never have to re-light, so it isn't goopy moist, but if I understand the preferences I read on the boards, probably more moist than a lot of smokers. When my nose is working well, which isn't always because of allergies, I can also tell if the tobacco is at the right moisture level by how it smells in the jar. If I'm not getting much smell in the jar, it's almost always too dry for my tastes. I get a robust jar scent when I have the moisture level right on. Are your findings similar?
I have mostly folded and stuffed whole flake in different ways. Recently, rubbed it out pretty well. I have dried it overnight and less time, and will cease this, as it loses some taste to me. I just checked my jar of 4 ounces, and it is a tad sticky like you described and has a rich jar smell. I'm going to stick to that moisture level now, and try the small strips with a little rub. I've had some excellent smokes of this blend, and those memories keep me coming back to it. One was in an old 1980's briar house sitter, and the other in a cob, and both were with higher moisture tobacco and using some breath technique. Other than those, it is just consistently good.
