    Branching Out

I occasionally think about trying cigars, but 1) they are pricey and 2) I haven't the foggiest idea where to start. No interest whatsoever in anything else you mentioned.

    Lakeland Flakes?

My 2 cents: GH Dark Flake Unscented GH Coniston Cut Plug Unscented GH Brown Flake Scented Edit: Doh, I meant GH Kendal Flake (which is scented) SG 1792 Flake Note that the "unscented" versions above still have that Lakeland "soapy" note.

    Aging Irish Flake

Help in defining a big project

This sounds like an intriguing idea. As I think about though, I wonder if such statistically significant correlations exist at all. Of course, the only way to know would be to do the actual statistical study. But, as a thought-experiment, I wonder to myself whether one can make such...

How many bowls {pipe Tobacco} do you get to Enjoy per week?

Only about once a week, on average. Geez, I feel like such a slacker.....

Tobacco Cellar Programs - Spread Sheet???

I've used tobaccocellar.org for several years and have found it more than adequate for my needs. After making changes, I do always download my cellar (CSV-formatted text file) as a backup in case the site ever goes away for whatever reason, but its been unneeded so far.

Penderyn - Scotch made in Wales

I'm not familiar with Campbeltowns -- that will be some new territory to try out. :) And normally I'd pass over Laphroaig in favor of Lagavulin, but I'll keep any eye out for that quarter cask!

Penderyn - Scotch made in Wales

Fair enough....on the box they do call it "Single Malt Welsh Whisky"....and on the other side of the box...in Welsh I presume...it is called "Wisgi Brag Sengl Cymrieg". I just happened to find it amidst all the scotches at the store, and so I mentally cast it into the group.

Penderyn - Scotch made in Wales

I bought it purely on a whim and for the novelty...I mean, who ever heard of something as absurd as scotch being made in Wales! But I was very impressed with Penderyn Madeira Single Malt. It is aged in bourbon casks and then finished in Madeira casks. Unusual, indeed. The color is very light...

    1792,Dark Flake scented

Have you tried GH Kendal Dark Thick Cut? I thought it would either be a duplicate of Dark Shag or Dark Flake, but its not. It has a pleasant personality of its own and I suspect would find a place into your GH likings. I don't know if it is still an issue, but over the last several years, SG...

    1792,Dark Flake scented

To me, they are night and day. The only similarities I find are 1) the strength and 2) the bite-free quality. DF Scented begins with the underlying DF combination of discernable variegated flavors along with cigar-like notes with a slight smokiness, and then layers on top the improbable...

Getting ready to walk the rope

I prefer the wide-mouth for all my bulk, especially rope or plugs. The ropes should not break -- they should never be that dry. I usually coil them inside the jar so that it forms a cylinder along the inside of the jar sides. Then I fill the center vertically with any remaining pieces cut to...

    Tin v. Bulk

I've done both. I think you're right that its a matter of preference. I don't think there's a clear-cut answer. Another argument for bulk is that the vacuum seal on tins is not necessarily as reliable as that on jars. Another argument against bulk is that if you get mold in a jar, you may...

Getting ready to walk the rope

For brown ropes, I'd recommend GH Brown Bogie and SG Brown #4. BB is the best rope I've had. SG Brown #4 is also good and rather different in its flavor. I frankly didn't find the flavored ropes (rum, whiskey, coconut) very flavorful or very good. I dislike the black ropes, but if you...
