My IMP Meer cracked. I almost did, too.

A .99 cent hose clamp would probably work and would look cool as well. Natch might be able to use one in his vasectomy work too. :)

    Pipe bowl scale

Thanks for the link, DeepBass. Any idea how much tobacco each size will hold? Kim

    Liking red cake

I might give that a try. Can you suggest a good bulk burley? Kim

    Liking red cake

I've only been buying pipe tobacco for a couple of months now so don't remember prices much less than the $50/lb mark. However, as an ex cigarette smoker used to paying over $6/pack and smoking a pack a day, $5 for an ounce of tobacco that will last me at least 11 days is a real bargain. Kim

    Liking red cake

Yea Kevin, I'm pretty happy with this mixture. I'm not a big fan of perique at this point but that could change. I've got two dozen Mason jars so I'm all set to do some minor hoarding. Kim

    Liking red cake

While searching the forums for VA recommendations I ran across an old post from either PuffDaddy or Richard Burley (I think). Whoever it was recommended a mixture of McClellands 5100 red cake and a small amount of 5105 stoved virginia. I ordered some of this tobacco several days ago and mixed up...

    tongue has raw feeling

I'm pretty new to pipe smoking so take my suggestions with a grain of your favorite sodium compound (I'd probably avoid sodium cyanide though). Biotene mouthwash seems to help me when I've "blistered" my tongue. Also, a glass of water while smoking helps me keep my mouth hydrated. I'm sure other...

catsup aplenty but where's the beef?

I really like this flake when I can coax some flavor out of it. I'm still trying to improve my smoking technique and think this will be a great flake for me once I learn how to smoke it. Kim

catsup aplenty but where's the beef?

Since we're on the subject of catsup, I thought I'd share a little experiment I conducted this morning. I know that I smell and taste catsup with Black Woods Flake and I assumed that most people would smell and taste the same thing if only they would admit it! After I re-opened my tin of...

catsup aplenty but where's the beef?

As promised, I'm back with a report on my experiences with my first tin of CF (Catsup Flake). :P I rubbed out another bowl of Black Woods and let it dry on a piece of printer paper for about thirty minutes. This seems to have made a big difference since I was able to taste some really nice VA...

catsup aplenty but where's the beef?

A suggestion about BF that you might want to try. It has worked well for me and has helped me enjoy the 'bac. Try rubbing it out real well, then spread it out on a saucer and let it DRY out (I put my saucer under my desk lamp for about 20 min.) THEN put it in a wide bowled pipe . I really like...

catsup aplenty but where's the beef?

I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet, Alfredo. I'm determined to keep working with this tobacco until I can understand the reason for it's popularity. Monbla, I know that smelling/tasting catsup on McClelland flakes is not something one lightly admits here, but smell and taste it I do. I'm...

catsup aplenty but where's the beef?

Well, I just tried my first flake (broken flake) tobacco yesterday and I'm underwhelmed. I've smoked three bowls of McClellands Black Woods Flake in three different pipes and the only taste that I can discern is catsup. I know that many folks here love this tobacco and since I'm still a newb at...

My new Devil Anse pipe from Todd

Hey Richard, you're a dead ringer for Kevin Costner. Have you considered working as his stunt double? Glad you're enjoying your Devil Anse. Mine came up in rotation yesterday and I had three delicious bowls through that great smoking little pipe. Todd's the man! Kim
