Nice shot too BH, looking at the location I reckon you’d have some nice birdsong as your background music, it looks most relaxing.

Someone was questioning the price tag, I can only say that these are worth it due to the extra care taken by MM when constructing these pipes. The stem is extremely comfy, the stummel has been countersunk into the bowl and there has been no extra globs of glue in either of mine unlike other MM pipes I’ve purchased.

Cheers

Yep I thought 25 was a bit high for a cob....but I ordered one anyway and will admit it is totally worth the price. It is far nicer than any of my other cobs, and I would not hesitate to order another one in the future.

Interestingly enough, as I was getting the pipes set up I heard some odd sounds and looked over the balcony railing to check it out.  Amid the gnarled Oak trees, scratching in the leaf litter, there was a rafter of a half dozen wild turkeys.  Impressive.

Here ya go...

Wild turkeys you say. We had those when I lived in WA.

I remember one day taking I-90 east one mile to my exit and seeing a flock of them crossing the road, or trying to. The cars slowed down for them as did I since they were very confused. I left the area after avoiding them as did all the other vehicles.

Some hrs later I had to re-trace this section of highway and found several blobs on the roadway where they had obviously been run over. Such a heartbreak!

Back on topic I broke down and ordered a second Cobbler. Why?

Because I can I guess!

They ARE nice, but those bowls are SO big! I rarely smoke mine anymore.... I am thinking of sanding a bit off the top of the bowls.

But then I see the new St. Patrick's Day cobs. A few mods to get it bent it would make a nice Cobbler too!

:fpalm:

Got one, a couple of the mini cobs, and a straight fifth avenue from smoking pipes.

Hard to believe I only have one mouth for all these pipes!

Thanks to this thread, Blackhorse, I got my own cobbler like the above. Smokes great, very very comfortable. I notice cobs smoke a little hotter than I am used to. But I confess I do need some lessons in cob smoking, maybe even all pipe smoking in general.

Also has anyone heard anything about cobs not working as well in humid environments? My friend just told me that and I took it with a grain of salt.

I have Dunhills, falcons and Upshalls, but this damned corny thing is fast becoming my favorite.

I’ve oops-charred the hell out of the top, and some tobacco stays unsmoked at the bottom but I love it. Many in another forum say to yank out the protruding shank in the bowl and muddy the bottom, but I hesitate to do such cosmetic surgery.

I believe I will get another and maybe even a third.

I wanted to buy another but smokingpipes.com is out. I blame this thread for running them out!

Many places are often out of them, it took me some time to find one after i first read this post.

Is the Charles Towne Cobbler bowl similar to another MM model?

I still own about 70 pipes, not counting my cobs. For the last couple of years, I think I've only smoked my cobs, which are primarily Mark Twains and Dagners which I've fitted with acrylic stems.

I have purchased two MM
Great Dane Maple Hardwoods and fitted those with acrylic stems, but I haven't smoked either of them, as yet. They are incredibly light weight; lighter than the cobs.

I was surprised to see MM marketing three pipes specifically for smoking ganja. I'm thinking of ordering The Chub and inserting a longer acrylic stem and using it for a short tobacco smoke.

Edit: I just ordered The Chub.
I just noticed that The Chub has a hole drilled in the side. Does anyone know why? I guess I'll fill it with cigar ash mud, or if I can find a small piece of dowel.

Wanna spruce them up a bit? 1. First sand the cobs lightly using 320 grit wet/dry sandpaper.
That's where I usually end the process. I try to remove as much of the varnish as possible. I want the pipe to breathe and keep cool. I really don't care how they look.

The Chub arrived this morning. I'd already bought a thin dowel to plug the hole in the side. I sanded the dowel slightly, slipped it into the hole with some wood glue and trimmed it. You can't tell there was ever a hole. I fitted a full size acrylic stem and smoked a couple of bowls. It had been a while since I'd broken in a cob. That was not a pleasurable experience, not at all. I figure it'll take a few smokes until it smokes like my other cobs.
The exterior of the bowl rough, natural, completely unfinished.
The bowl is small, but not tiny like I expected.
