    Volume of smoke question

To the OP I can understand the character of the smoke. There is a level of satisfaction, for me, upon a bold release of smoke, versus a wisp. I agree flavor is usually independent on the volume/thickness/bold-ness of the output smoke, and copious amounts of smoke does lead to potential mouth...

    Granger

Through 4Noggins you can get 2oz samples of various OTC. As you can see there are many feelings across OTC and even in the linage of a single OTC. Give'm all (current versions) a try! They are affordable and you might find something unexpected. I prefer Carter Hall of the main OTC. There are...

    RE: Tobacco Cellar

There are enough opinions/strategies/methods on this topic to keep you reading for awhile. The short answer is there is no "everything else equal" which makes it interesting. Some tobaccos can come with a mold or issue which will cause problems, some seals will fail, some tins may rust. As GL...

    Your brushing technique!

My dentist said the biggest problem is pulling smoke into teeth... meaning for a pipe smoker if you held the the pipe stem between your lips and pulled in the smoke with a closed jaw you would have the smoke hit your teeth first. That can cause significant staining (same for cigars). If you open...

    Maybe it's because i'm a young guy...

I purchased some Drew Estate Natural cigars, not understanding they were flavored. I talked to my local shop about them and he said that those and ACID are very popular. Not my thing, but enjoy what you smoke! PS. I was amused with the Natural Root that there was more smoke from the infused...

    In your opinion

I use pipesandcigars the most, 4noggins, smokingpipes.com and an order or two from most other online vendors. I have not had issues with pipesandcigars.com. Oddly the only issue I've had was with C&D (since you have to call to order) and they did resolve very quickly.

    Howdy folks

Welcome to the forum. This was a major problem for me as well. I encourage you to stick to it the best you can, but I didn't get dedicated until I had an indoor space. This topic came up in a recent conversation and it was clear to many of us that smoking a pipe outdoors (in non-ideal...

    Hello from KS

Sage, you will find a lot of great information here and on YouTube about packing methods, cleaning, and types of tobacco. A great way to get going is offered by www.pipesandcigars.com, they have starter "kits" that include everything you need. Another great choice are corn cob pipes...

    Churchwarden

I have both a (1) briar churchwarden and a three set of clay colonial pipes. I haven't noticed any difference in smoking the briar churchwarden from a standard stem length. However, the clay are interesting. Since clay is very porous it will build flavor character quickly. This is not good if...

What do your wives think of pipe smoking?

My wife is not a fan. I've been given the "you didn't smoke so much when we met" phrase a few times. I do have a place outside the house where I can smoke in comfort and then get showered up on return.

Debating Trying a Meerschaum - Need Some Brotherly Advice!

I recommend you give them a go. I do not agree that you need to build cake in a meer like briar. I keep my meer bowl clean by using a pipe cleaner within the bowl after each smoke. It is my pipe for giving new tobaccos a chance to shine. I just have a plain meer standard pipe shape, not a figure...

    Just Tried Carter Hall

I found CH to be really good. I have collected most all OTCs that are still sold and it is nice to light up a bowl of any of them. They are all easy to smoke and are great for cake building. I recommend trying them all!

    Where is the taste?

My advice is to use the gravity fill method. Just fill halfway with loose tobacco, then tap (not tamp) the pipe to let that settle. Repeat until you are full of UN-tamped tobacco. Then use your finger to gently pack the whole bowl a bit below the rim, it will expand when you light it. Use...
