Where do you go to smoke?

I cannot smoke in the house, even in the unfinished section of the basement, so I am outdoors. The winter was long and this spring has been cold, but there has been a dry spell that has allowed me to enjoy the patio with my pipe, watching the fire

My thoughts (.02) on pipe lighters

I have used matches, Zippo and even those long butane stix - but I have upgraded to an Old Boy and I am pleased. The crap spring we have been having has meant cold and wind - but the flame on the Old Boy still comes alive and gets down into the bowl without an issue. It was more than I...

    What are you smoking?

McClelland's Ashton Revival: Brindle Flake in my Tanganyika Kilimanjaro. I left the tobacco out for about an hour to dry prior to smoking, it was still tacky as I rubbed it out. It was a slow burning and powerful smoke.

Potent Potables that Partner with Pipes

I have always leaned towards whisky - either scotch or bourbon for pairing with my smoke. I haven't explored other sipping liquors; like quality brandies or cask grade rums. Should the weather EVER decide to become warm or at least dry - perhaps I will give those a try. I am strictly an...

Where do you store your tobacco?

Has anyone tried FoodSaver vacuum sealing bulk tobacco? I find that it works great for its intended purpose, so using it on tobacco seems reasonable

    WooHoo!! Score!!

You cant find those strike anywhere in Mass, but last time I was in NH for vacation I bought 4 boxes of the Diamond Greenlight strike anywhere. I agree that the "anywhere" part isnt exactly the truth, but I smoke outside and the pavers or fence are rough enough. Next time I am passing through...

    Xikar

No, I am a cigar / pipe smoker only and even those arent quite as frequent as I would like. When I fire up a stogie, I use the butane torch and it works like a champ. For the pipe, I tried using the Zippo and when it is full I like it - but if it sits for 2 - 3 days the fuel evaporates. I...

    Xikar

Any add'l thoughts on the Xikar Resource or Pipeline lighters? I grow tired of having to top off the Zippo everytime I try to use it and tilting the Bic is getting old, too. I have used a torch a couple of times, but I know that is just a scorch mark waiting to happen. The IM Corona is just...

Tinsky #12 vs 2012 Christmas Pipe Comparison?

I am partial to the blast finishes, esp the dark, but over time I could see having a tan blast in the stable. I have seen pictures in other threads of natural finishes adopting a honey gold look from the tobacco, much like a meerschaum. Just got to finish the taxes to see how much Uncle Sam...

Tinsky #12 vs 2012 Christmas Pipe Comparison?

Bumping this thread to see if OP ever pulled the trigger on a Tinsky. I have a chronic case of analysis paralysis on Tinsky pipes - there are 3 models that I am torn between - and "buy all three" isn't an option. Christmas 2011 ASP POY 2012 BoB POY 2012

    Flake Pipes

I have struggled to get through a bowl of Brindle Flake, but perhaps using a smaller bowled pipe was a contributing factor (the other is not letting it dry for a bit) Hopefully the weather this weekend will allow for a trial in a larger scale bulldog
