    Question re jarring up Haddo's

I'm contemplating the purchase of a one pound tin of Haddo's and was wondering if I should open the tin and jar it up immediately in several pint and half pint jars, or, should I just leave it in the can for later. It seems that Haddo's really shines with a little age, but at 70, I don't think...

Billiard or Dublin - Which for What?

I think I've read that a large billiard or a pot was the best pipe for English/Balkan blends, but I've not read anything about the Dublin and was wondering if what I think I've read about billiards and pots was correct and what are the best tobaccos to smoke in a Dublin. Any thoughts? TLA

Need help with clogged draught holes

A couple of C&D tobaccos which I like, Oriental Silk and Habana Daydream, are so finely cut, I call it a “diced” ribbon cut, that, more often than not, the tobacco winds up clogging the pipe's draught hole. The majority of my pipes use a balsa filter so there's no possibility of using a pipe...

Daughters and Ryan also on sale at P&C

Pipes & Cigars is also running a sale on Daughters and Ryan tobaccos for an unspecified "limited time." All one pound bags are 20% off. I checked and some one pound bags were in stock and some were on backorder. It remains to be seen if the backordered stock will be resupplied while the sale...

H&H Marquee Series on sale at P&C

I haven't seen this mentioned but P&C is running a "buy 2 get 1 free" sale on their Marquee Series tins. I bought some last week and called back yesterday to see how long the sale would run as I was trying to see if would last long enough for me to reload the T.A.D. cannon. The lady told me...

    Suggestions for mixing (stacking?) mixtures

I believe I read a post from arkansaspiper where he said how much he enjoyed puffing a half bowl of Nightcap topped with a half bowl of London Mixture, and I was wondering whether any other BOB's have experimented with mixing mixtures. I would presume one would usually stack the mixtures rather...

St. James Perique versus "Acadian" Perique

I've run across the term "Acadian Perique" and somehow I got the impression that this was different from St. James Parish Perique. Anyone have any info on this? Thanks, TLA

How to determine which blends may be lost due to FDA regs?

Has anyone made a list of popular blends which may be lost due to the new FDA regs? As a newbie puffer I don't have any idea which blends date from before 2007 and after. I would like to lay in a supply of blends which I like and might be lost due to the regs, but I don't know if they'd be...

    8oz tins versus bulk

P&C offers a number of their blends in both 8oz. tins as well as bulk (e.g. Ambassador's Blend) Interestingly, the per ounce price of the tins is cheaper than the bulk price. Two 8oz tins of Ambassador's Blend runs about $36 versus $41.60 for a pound of the bulk. Is there any reason why one...

What's the best way to pack and puff a shallow pot

I decided to break in my Savinelli 316KS pot today. The bowl was too shallow to allow for a 3 stage packing so I went with a 2 stage pack of C&D's Billy Budd. For the most part I took short sipping puffs while clenching the pipe with the occasional long, very slow draw, but no matter how I went...

    I'd like a 9mm to 6mm stepdown filter adapter

Both 9mm filter pipes and 6mm filter pipes offer a stepdown adapter to 3mm which I assume is the standard size draught hole. Most of my pipes have 6mm filter capability, but I've seen a number of pipes which interest me but they are 9mm models. I'd probably buy some of them if someone would...

Question re GH&Co. Super Moist Tobaccos

I recently purchased two of GH&Co's tobaccos – Kendal Kentucky and Dark Bird's Eye. As a newbie puffer this was my first experience with shag cut tobacco and I'd never seen tobacco cut this fine. It was almost as fine as sewing thread. More particularly, both tobaccos weren't just moist, they...
