So, we built a house last year, and styled it (somewhat) after farmhouses of yesteryear, and my family appreciates the folk art of eastern europe as well as some old Americana. So, my wife wanted a new computer desk after I bought her a Mac for Christmas.
But, I bought a Mac, so I couldn't...
Well...
This past Friday, my family and I moved into our new place...we broke ground April 16th after having lived in a one-bedroom, 800sq ft in-law suite for 2 1/2 years (that's me, my wife, my two kids, and two dogs and a house full of stuff, and my coffee roasting business, and my wife's...
Here is the pipe I received from Scottie in the bombing run of which I was the primary target...
She started the stem, did the drilling, and started the stummel.
I did the finish shaping, sanding, and stain/finishing.
Thanks again Scottie, I am very pleased that you considered me...
I didn't see a thread talking specifically about knives...at least not one like the other "category" threads...
So, I have carried a couple SOG knives in the past, but I don't like the "tacticool" black plastic knives, they just scream "teenager trying to be cool and tough" or some "mall...
Was playing around with some more kits...and about the same time was alerted to a brother (on another forum) who had his whole pipe bag stolen from his car.
So, as I was almost finished with this one, I decided to send it to him to replace on of his pipes.
Here it is...a small bowled...
So, I made one more pipe from kit (so I can't control the drilling, the draft hole is a little high).
This one looks better, and the stem/shank joint is better, the finish came out pretty nice, and the grain is great. it's a freehand rhodesian kinda-thing, I don't know, call it whatever you...
Being inspired by some of the craftsman and craftswomen on this site and others...I figured I'd give making a pipe a whirl...
It's not perfect, the stem/stummel joint is not perfect, it's not perfectly symmetrical (i don't have a lathe), the stem could be buffed and polished a bit more, but the...
Soooo....who wants to meet for a drink/smoke/etc?
I'll be free this evening (Nov 12) after 4 or 5.
I'm at the Hyatt Worthington. Let me know where I can go, thanks.
I arrive home and find one lonesome package among the small mountain of junk mail that seems to permeate my postal delivery box most days...
My wife, giving me a look of disappointment and vexation, says, "what did you buy?"
I said, "I didn't buy anything, I swear." though the evidence, in...
My wife and I have had our house on the market since last April (2012).
We already own a lot near our work (we work together, even share an office), and we own it outright. We want to start building on it. We already have plans and a builder.
We don't want to carry two mortgages (really like...
I typically smoke in my car, or in my garage/workshop/espresso bar/coffee roastery...
Over the past week, in my free time, I've built a new workbench/table, and a handmade pipe rack/case was delivered to my house. So here is my humble "smoking area"
So, I set it all up, and took a few pics...
There is a little shop in Akron, right on Market St. (the main road going east and west)
The gentleman who runs this place is certainly a character, and the place is not particularly inviting.
- There are no tobaccos or cigars out on display
- You're not allowed to go into the humidor (it's...
Figured I should follow the standard protocol of starting my little intro thread.
Greetings!
I am a married, father of two, in NE Ohio. I roast coffee for a living, as well as operate group homes for people with developmental disabilities. I play basketball, lift weights, read books, smoke...
