CRAZY Price Increase on Mac Baren Tobaccos!

I was mortified when I saw that a tin of MacB Navy or Mixture flake is now over $20USD. Ouch! Good thing I stocked-up on both. Looks like I'll be shifting over to Stokkebye flake blends for the bulk of my daily smoking. Too bad. I like MacB blends, but not enough to justify spending $20USD a...

First Time with MacBarens Mixture Scottish Blend

One of my favorites, but I find very little difference between the flake and ready rubbed versions. Love the mildly sweat flavor, and the room note is just right. Not way sweet, but not cigarette-like. Just pipe-like.

    What are you smoking?

Falcon rusticated Hyperbole and some MacB Plumcake, a glass of Newcastle Brown on the side. Watching Lock-Up. They're showing correctional officer cadets getting pepper sprayed. I had to do that back in 1998, when I went through C/O training. It sucks.

    Tending towards simplicity

I'm in the same boat, sorta. I've been smoking a pipe since 1979, but for most of that time I had limited options when it came to pipe tobacco or pipes. Then I discovered the internet and on-line tobacco sales. Woo Hoo! So much variety, and I took advantage of it... and ultimately had an...

    "new" pipe choices

And this is the essence of collecting pipes. I know pipe smokers who collect only Dunhills, and that is cool. I know pipe smokers who concentrate on Petes, and that is cool too. I know pipe smokers who have never owned more than two pipes in their entire lives, and I know a pipe smoker who...

    What's Your "Go To" Blend.

Since I discovered internet tobacco venders like 4noggins, I've had the opportunity to try pipe tobacco blends that at one time I thought I'd never get an opportunity to try... and many a blend that I never knew existed. I've also been able to save quite a bit of cash in the process, and I've...

    "new" pipe choices

I love me some Petes, but only their low end pipes. If you want a pipe that will look OK and smoke nicely, something to smoke while camping or just enjoy around the house, then you can't go wrong with a Pete. I've got a couple of Pete Irish Army pipes that are never gonna win any beauty prizes...

    Ruining an aro smoker...

MM965 is one of those seminal and iconic blends that appeals to just about everybody. It's a brilliant blend, masterfully crafted from three relatively uninspiring tobaccos. Truly a testament to uncle Alfred's genius.

where do you buy tobacco and suggestions for first purchase

In no particular order, I'd recommend the following on-line vendors: 4noggins, Cupojoes, Mars Cigars, and Pipes and Cigars. All will let you use credit card, pay pal, or money order. Be wary of credit card purchases, though, cuz PAD and TAD can be evil afflictions and they will convince you that...

MacB Bold Kentucky in a straight Falcon rusticated Dublin, a mug of black Folgers on the side.

    MacB Bold Kentucky

I believe you'll like it. I'm smoking some right now in a Falcon rusticated Dublin bowl, with a mug of Folgers (black) on the side. Just wonderful. Yezzir, MacB knocked it out of the park with this blend.

    What are you smoking?

MacB Bold Kentucky flake in a straight Falcon smooth billiard. Holy Cow!

    MacB Bold Kentucky

Holy Cow! This blend is both sublime and powerful. There's a healthy done of Vitamin N in here. Also, next to no topping that I can detect, a goodly helping of dark Kentucky leaf, and just enough Virginny leaf to give it some sweetness. I'd say it's equivalent to Pete IF, but where IF is dark...

Which of the Dunhill lines are worth collecting?

    Short Pipes...

The style is also known as a Tug or Tugboat style pipe. If you consider what all a tugboat crew has to do to bring a ship from sea to pier (or vice versa), a short stout pipe makes sense. It allows you to smoke a pipe while working in cramped quarters and having to handle a lot of lines. It's...

Help Needed to Date My "New" Dunhill

I've heard from really hard-core Dunhill enthusiasts that the post-1970 Dunhills are subpar, and I've heard from not so hard-core fans that those made in the 1990's and later are subpar. I figure I'm never gone have an extra $700 or so just sitting around and waiting to be spent on a new pipe...

    What are you smoking?

Royal Yacht in a 1961 Dunhill 591 (Oom Paul) #4 Tanshell. Wonderful smoke. Just wonderful.

Help Needed to Date My "New" Dunhill

Great place. I'll be back again - often. No tins, but at $5USD an ounce on Stokkebye bulk - including LNF - it's a great pipe shop. Looks like they stock just about all of the major Stokkebye bulk blends - and quite a few Lane blends to boot... even Crown Achievement. As for the pipe, well...
