There was panic today at Mikem's House

That was a close one. Glad you didn't lose any tobacco.

    Tobacco Aging

Basically anything that has Virginias in it will age very well and benefit from age. Other tobaccos, by varying degrees, not so much.

    Selling pipes from kits

Nice to know I wasn't just being anal about this.

    What's Your Worst Smoker?

I have a Dunhill root from the late 60's I've given up on.

    Selling pipes from kits

The other day I was discussing another topic and to make my point I sort of declared, as if it were an absolute, that no one would consider buying a pipe the carver had made from a kit. In my mind, this is just axiomatic. Since then, I ran across someone who is doing just that! He mentioned the...

The burden of proof is on you.

Can anyone recommend a good aromatic?

I enjoy all of the WO Larsen aromatics - Signature, Old Fashioned, and 1864. Samuel Gawith has a few American style aromatics if that is what you're looking for. Also, check out 4noggins. He ships overseas and will have a range of American aromatics. Cornell and Diehl's aromatics can't be beat.

    Flavoring Question

I don't interpret that line in the tin description literally as an actual spice but a range of flavor from the tobacco - probably the Oriental leaf. I could be wrong.

    GLP Piccadilly

Absolutely not, but there are always surprises when I light up a bowl of something I haven't tried before. I guess when I see "English Breakfast Mixture" I'm thinking its going to be something on the lighter side. I'd say Piccadilly fits that bill. I'd never seen a tobacco called a "breakfast...

    Flavoring Question

I don't detect any top flavoring. Maybe its one of the Orientals you're tasting?

    GLP Piccadilly

I always go by what the blender calls it. If the blender doesn't specify I enter the danger zone called "in my mind..." In my mind, its not the Oriental leaf that shoots something directly into the English category, its the Latakia. When Oriental plays a significant role alongside Latakia...

    What are you smoking?

Good evening Gents (and Ladies?) warming up for the weekend with some McClelland's Oriental #14 in a IMP Volcano meer.

    Well aged Samarra

I've been smoking this without any significant age on it and think its delicious. I guess full, mild, and all that is highly subjective. I consider it a medium to medium-full blend. In my mind, I don't consider it a Balkan, but an English blend - it has Perique and not enough Orientals to rate...

    Aged Straight VA Bite

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who disagrees with the meme that tongue bite is caused by technique. "Slow down" seems to be the automatic response when anyone brings up the issue.

    Butternut Burley

I consider it above average as aromatics go, but not by much. There's a bit of that synthetic taste sensation that plague the majority of industrial aromatics like Lanes, Altadis, etc. The flavor is a bit heavy and sweet. Burns great, no bit, overall thumbs up with a recommendation to try it.

    Boswell's Northwoods

This is good stuff. I'm new to Boswell tobacco but I've heard great things about their blends and their pipes for years. Edit: Hmmmm, I think I did this wrong LOL.

    New Here

Hi All, I've been fairly active on another pipe smoking forum - hadn't run across this one until now. Looking forward to meeting new people or seeing people who I may already know from elsewhere. I used the handle "SmokingArea" on another forum. Boswell's Northwoods in a Sav POY 2007 Eric
