    Any thoughts on shop pipes?

I look at this way. If you're still learning how to pack, smoke, and clench a pipe properly. Your pallet isn't broke in, etc., then you're better off with a basket pipe. It's not pretty scorching the bowl rim of a $200 pipe. When I'm working around the yard or garage, a basket pipe is all I will...

SPC Plum Pudding in a Peterson racing green Dublin.

What 'baccy did you start with?

I started with a Tinderbox blend. Wilshire.

Which Tinderbox Blends should I try?

Kyle, thanks! Sent PM Monbla, yes a lot of pipe shops have gone almost total cigars. Sucks.

Which Tinderbox Blends should I try?

Thanks guys. I've heard good things about Philosopher. Yes Kyle, 1928 is blended by McClelland according to their site and like you say, their bulk blends don't seem to cause a lot of excitement. Tinderbox is where I bought my first pipe in 81 and their bulk blends were all I smoked then. This...

Which Tinderbox Blends should I try?

I will be doing some traveling next week and plan to visit a Tinderbox store in Metaire, LA. I am wondering what store blends to try. I'm steering toward tastey aromatics. Otherwise I like Balkans and Burleys. I read up on some blends on TR and made a list of sorts to help narrow things down...

    Kicked my arse!

I am doing a bowl of No 4 as I type. I just hiccuped and there are invisible flys buzzing around my head. Is my arse getting kicked? I don't think so. It feels great! No 4 is great tobbaco!!

    Kicked my arse!

3 & 4 are currently in my rotation. 4 has been for quite some time. Both have a good nic kick but I'm pretty imune it. It relaxes me. Never tried 1 & 2. 4 to me is one of the best damned Burley blends on the planet. Others will say 3 is.

a question regarding Captain Black White

I liked CBW when I started smoking pipes in the early 80's. Today, I don't care for it much at all. The only OTC I like now is PA.

Guess who's the newest Peterson initiate?

Nice Kyle! I'm finding Petes are no crap shoot. This is probably my best smoker.

I just tried Cornell & Diehl's Billy Budd

Billy Budd and Bow Legged Bear are currently in my rotation. I think LI Pipe nailed it quite well. A lot of strength there but once you overcome the bitch slapping, you enter a new world of taste and relaxation. A fantastic way to laugh off a stressful day.

    Your favorite B&M/Smoking Spot

The B&M near me is a book and tobacco store. Their biggest sellers are cigars, RYO tobacco, and magazines. They were big into pipes and carried a good selection of Petes, Nordings, Stannys, etc. until recently when they let it sell off and never re-stocked. I dearly miss the Tinderbox near...

    Balkan style

Amen. Being a Balkan lover, I've come to expect an abudance of Latakia in a Balkan. Many I've smoked are refered to as Lat bombs. G Pease pretty much taketh the words out of my mouth so I sayeth no more.

    Churchwarden Pipes, Benefits?

I had a churchwarden years ago and don't know what became of it. I remember it being awkward for me to smoke. Especially with lighting and tamping. I've always considered them to be novel but still they have their pros.

    Who's right?

The advice you get from a B&M expert is in most cases in the best interest of the B&M. But then if she's got massive cleavage, I'll do whatever she tells me to do whether she knows anything about pipes or not.

    For your perusal and discussion

Yes, there is confusion out there amongst makers and puffers over the bulldog and rhodesian shape.

Dunhill my mixture 965 THE BIG LETDOWN?!?!!!!

I agree with monbla. Often times you need to smoke half a dozen bowls or so before the flavors come through. It's common for them to taste bland at the first crack or 1/4 bowl as you put it. Seasoning of the pallate has some to do with it I'm sure. Hard to say.

    Cigar Leaf Blends

GL Pease Robusto is what I like for a cigar note. Same goes for C&D Billy Budd.
