West Coast Pipe Show - My Pics

I wanted to share a few select pics from the show, then at the end, I'll like my full photo album of all the pipes on the tables. A couple of characters! Russ Ouellette holding a tin of his show blend. Russ giving his tobacco/beverage pairing chat. Guest Speaker Steve Fallon giving the...

West Coast Pipe Show - Seven Day Pipe Set Raffle

Guess who won the Seven Day Pipe Set Raffle at the West Coast Pipe Show.... THIS GUY!!! I can't tell you how shocked and excited I am to have won this set! I will have MANY more pictures to post later, which I will probably put in an IMGUR album for easier digestion. I got shots of EVERY pipe...

    John Patton's Storm Front

I've seen tons of posts mentioning this blend, or comparing this blend to other blends, but I haven't seen a post dedicated to the blend itself. I figured it was time it had one. The description of Storm Front is as follows: I picked up some Storm Front and have had the opportunity to smoke a...

    BoB Portrait Gallery

I can't finde a similar post, so might as well start one. Some of you use a portrait of yourself as an avatar, some don't. For those that don't, post a portrait photo of yourself here! I'll start with a photo I took with the help of Instagr.am:

Review - Jar Alternative - Good Grips POP Container

Early on in my return to pipe smoking about a month ago, I ran into Neill Archer Roan's blog "Passion for Pipes". One of his posts dealt with storage: http://www.apassionforpipes.com/neills-blog/2010/11/28/keep-your-favorite-tobaccos-optimally-fresh.html Near the end he mentions the Good Grips...

Am I Doing This Right? Cellar Pic

I keep my pipe stuff in a cheap 2-drawer wooden file cabinet thing. Bottom for tobacco cellar, top for everything else. I've got my tobacco jarred up now(mostly; I haven't opened some of my old Bombay Court tins yet). How am I doing?

New Lighter - Tsubota Pearl “Eddie”

I've been in the market for a new pipe lighter. I bought a cheaper one when I got back into the hobby, but I've found it a bit... lacking. I do all my smoking outdoors, and trying to get a lighter to light in the wind can be frustrating. I also travel, which means I don't want to invest in a...

Storage - Do you jar your flake?

I'm getting into the habit of jarring my tobaccos as soon as I open the tin (for me, jars are easier to open). I know some of you do the same, and some don't. For those that do, how do you handle (non-pre-rubbed) flake tobacco? Jar it when you open the tin? Rub it out before you jar it?

Ruminations of a Newbie Pipe Smoker

I find myself fascinated with the variety of (non-aromatic) blends of pipe tobacco, and how the smell of a tobacco has the same effect on me as smelling a good chocolate or spice blend. I am amazed at how well smoking a pipe out on my back porch can calm my mind and ease my stress. I am...

    Flying, TSA, and all that

I'm sitting in the San Jose airport having just made it through security. While I wait to board my flight home, I thought I'd share a few things about flying as a pipe smoker. In my job I typically fly a lot, which means countless trips through security. My goal is to spend as little time there...

    Unintentional Delayed Gratification

If you read my PAD post, you know I picked up several new tobaccos at a B&M on my current business trip. Of these, 4 are tins of new tobacco, and by that I mean it hasn't been sitting on the shelf for years. Reading here and on the tobacco reviews site, I've learned some folks have issues when...

This Old Tin - Dud or Gem?

Yesterday I picked up a tin of McCelland Bombay Court I found at a B&M in Los Altos, California. It looks a little dusty, but the seal is intact, so I didn't think much of it. There is a number on the bottom of the tin: 350699 From what I've been able to dig up, the first two numbers ar the...

Anyone else making plans to go? Sat/Sun Nov 3/4 Palace Station Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas I have to plan things out as early as possible so I can set aside vacation time, coordinate with the ex, etc. I'm planning to go, and since it's Sat/Sun, I won't have to take vacation time to attend...

BoB's Essential Tobaccos for the Beginner Pipe Smoker

This is an idea I came up with as I was pondering the topic of what tobaccos I should spend my limited discretionary income on. I figure I'm not alone in that I want to explore different types of tobacco, but have limited funds and even more limited experience in choosing tobacco. I figure...

    New to BoB from Colorado

Greetings everyone! I've been smoking pipes on and off for about 10 years. My hobby was curtailed by my wife until our unfortunate split last year. I've renewed my interest in the hobby over the last week or so and rediscovered the joy of the pipe. I have 4 pipes now (up from 2!) and have...
