    My new pipe Yakslon ...

I keep coming back to this thread to look at that bulldog. Lovely, lovely work.

    What Are You Reading?

Picked up a complete collection (or at least I was told it was complete) of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series at a garage sale today. I read a couple of them years ago and enjoyed them thoroughly, so I think I'll read them all in order.

    admit you read comics

Just finished with the Scott Pilgrim books, read at a friend's insistent behest. Didn't get a whole lot from them, being neither Canadian nor a hipster.

    Tell me about calabashes

Okay, so I'm looking at getting a second pipe, and I've always been intrigued by calabashes, but I really don't know anything about them. Here's a couple of questions: Do these come in a variety of sizes? What kind of capacity do they have? I was under the impression that these were...

    Zero Effect

Has anyone else seen it? For those of you who haven't, it's a not very faithful adaptation of A Scandal in Bohemia (the very first Sherlock Holmes story published) set in modern times. The characters have all changed names and some of the plot is also different. One of my big problems with the...

What do you do for a living

I run a machine shop. Applying tungsten carbide on a conical shaft, HVOF system. Superfinished tungsten carbide surface on a different shaft. Applying chrome oxide on yet another shaft, Rokide system. Machining a roller on a lathe.

    admit you read comics

Do webcomics count? I like xkdc, Hark! A Vagrant! and Dinosaur Comics.

    If you were given $300...

I'd buy a $100 pipe and spend the rest on tobacco. :P

    Your Favorite Pipe Tobacco Manufacturer

I've probably looked at this thread 5 to 10 times. Each time counts as a view. # of people who've looked at this thread is another matter entirely.

old versus currently made Dunhill pipes...

That 50% discount does look funny...

    Your Favorite Pipe Tobacco Manufacturer

Views are counted every time someone has actually clicked on the topic, whether it's the first time or the 1000th, I think. I don't have a favorite either, but I'm going to be using this to help me decide what to try next.

    Are you eccentric?

The very fact that we smoke pipes in this day and age makes us all eccentric, methinks. Of course, so do loyalty in friendship, honesty in business, faithfulness in romance, tolerance to those with a different way of life, compassion to the unfortunate and common human decency in our...

Why did you choose your online name (handle)?

Alternate name for Su Daji. It was my character's name on a MUD (I'd just read Fengshen Yanyi when I started playing) and it kinda stuck.

    What Are You Reading?

Cataclysm: The First World War as Political Tragedy. Hardcore enthusiast reading, focusing on stuff ignored in popular histories like production figures, inter-ally and inter-service rivalry and political and bureaucratic infighting within the different governments. Dry but very educational...

    More Storage Help...

I didn't want to start a whole new thread about this so I'll just post here. Canning jars aren't available here so I gave some thought to repurposing conventional glass jars (the kind you get mustard, pickles, pasta sauce etc. in). Canning jars are unique in several ways; they're made of...
