    Brick and Mortar Compendium

Do we have an extensive list of b&m shops somewhere? My search doesn’t reveal too many. I am always looking for a stop to make on a road trip to break up the ride. Iwan Ries in Chicago was my home store for a while and it is legendary. I saw that Boswells has two locations. Is one better...

    California laws

The Supreme Court just upheld the flavored tobacco ban (targeting vapes but looping menthol cigarettes in as well). Does this effect pipe tobacco? If so, can you still buy from out of state? I’m 3,000 miles away, but I am curious!

    Tleek

Couldn’t find a thread yet so here we go Great accurate pics in the post and more than honest descriptions: a smudge described as a scratch. Communicative on shipment and tracking number accurate. Would buy from again anytime.

    Snuff vendors

I’m looking to pick up a few tins of snuff and no longer have a local source that I know of (Charleston SC these days). Where are the reputable places? I’m out of the game, so any recommendations are welcome!

Missed you guys. Any one looking for some desert island stuff?

Mods, please move this to the right spot if this isn’t where this belongs. It’s been a few years since I’ve even lurked. I have a nice little collection that I started about a decade ago. That if I worked through, I’m ok with. But if there is anyone out there that really wants some of this...

    Mcclelland score

Found a new tobacco shop since relocating. They have a little stash of Mcclelland tobacco tins. What are everyone's favorites? The ones in stock seem to be some of their blends without the caché of Blackwoods Flake and Dark Star, but I picked up a tin of Oriental Mixture #1 for myself. I will...

    The Big Move

Just settling in at the new place.... still a big pile of boxes in what will be the dining room. Moved a thousand miles from Chicago (back) to the Charleston area. A lot has changed in the 8 or so years we've been gone. Since I left, my parents and sister both moved here, so I have family close...

New Cigar club in Chicago burbs

Was just driving through downtown Downers Grove yesterday and saw a new Cigar club and shop called "The Place." I have yet to check it out in person, but I will report back. Their webpage points out their lounge and private lockers. No info on how they look upon pipes, nor what dues are. I...

    Back from a long break

Well, it’s only been three and a half years. Did I miss anything? Good to see some familiar names, and some new ones, too. How many times has Kyle quit since I was last on?

Just starting the search now-- was thinking of a family christmas gift...

    Daft Punk

I have heard a few of their songs on and off through the years, but the new single "Get Lucky" got me singing along in the car (I listen to a lot of radio simply to discover new music). I hadn't realized they did the entire score for TRON: Legacy. As I am wont to do, I am currently downloading...

    first snuffs

Picked up some WoS cherry menthol, irish toast #22, sm500, andkendal brown last week. I love the toast. cherry menthol is like cough drops , but really isn't offensive. I dig the new addition to my rotation.

    the Shadow?

So, one if you SOBs thinks you are Lamar Cranston. I get a call from wifey that she is ticked that she drove across town to the Post Office just to pick up my *sneer* pipe stuff. I don't remember ordering a tin of the Stokkebye 1957 and CD Old Hollywood. The cleaners were a nice touch: I just...

    A good burley

I have an itching to get a burley into my rotation. I have a cob ready for the job, but need a little help. Now, for the fun part: a few restrictions. Prince Albert, Carter Hall are for some reason, the hardest for me to find. I just cant walk into my house with a 14oz tub of tobacco and...

Found a "New to Me" b&m in my neighborhood!

Last week i picked up a bulk called "Sweet Virginia" from a B&m that i was unaware of until recently. Bull and Bear in Naperville has only one or two sutliff tinned tobaccos, but a few dozen bulks. A few reeked of coconut (suntan lotion sprayed over 1q? rob want to give some home flavoring a...

    Happy Birthday Moby Dick!

Today is the 161st anniversary of Moby Dick. If you haven't picked up this one in a while (like since high school -- im pretty sure we were all forced to read this :geek:) give it a shot; Mellville was a master of the english language, and this is a story with layers of suspense that unfold as...

    A BoB Cob

I still like the idea of a bob cob (pronounced bee-oh-bee see-oh-bee OR Bahb cahb).  I have a plan in mind, and am willing to spearhead this idea, but would like to see some interest first.  I am going to cross post this because it can be separate from the "Club Pipe" which should be briar. The...

    Defining Navy Flake and Blends

I really enjoy the history of pipe smoking, and feel that it feeds into the material culture (aka PAD) and ritual of our pastime. Most blenders have a Navy flake or slice or blend of some sort and this really appeals to me. However most are completely different. Rum seems to be the common...
