    Channeling Pipe Dan again...

Made another old Danish reform style inspired stack pipe in a shape I've always admired. I'm out of control here making these things, getting to like it. Overall length 6.5 inches Height 2.9 inches Bowl dia  1.5 inch Chamber depth  2.5 inches Chamber dia. 0.68 inch Started breaking it...

    Made another chimney...

With acknowledgement to Pipe Dan, here's  my freshly made Slowroll reformed stack. I hope it smokes as well as the last narrow bowl I made. Bowl dia.  Is 11/16, depth is 2 5/8, 6 1/2 in long. Bowl is wider dia than the old Pipe Dans, they were only about 9/16, which I think is too narrow.

Why are McC Orientals so unique?

As you might  have noticed from some of my recent posts, I've become pretty damn obsessed with mixing McC Yenice Agonya and Smyrna #1 with various latakias. These beauties have a floral, herby kind of flavor that reminds me of the components of the revered old Sobranie. They really stand out...

For you old Balkan Sobranie lovers...

Well, I stumbled upon a nice relative of the old revered SobrC&D Enginee. Not exactly, but with some of the wonderful complexity of that old legend. What is it? A mix of Peter Stokebbye English Oriental Supreme and McC Yenice Agonya. Ratio I tried is about 60% EOS and 40% Yenice. Quite lovely...

    Made a new elf stack...

Well, here's my latest effort. I wanted an extreme example similar to an old Pipe Dan narrow chimney, so I did this one. I thought that estheticly something this stacked should be a full bent and needed a long stem. I made that in 2 pieces. It's 3 1/2 in. High, bowl depth 3 1/4, bowl Dia.11/16...

A Bouquet for Pipes & Cigars...

Well, as I posted a few days ago, I got some McB HH Latakia flake a while back and it definitely didn't taste like Latakia flake, more like a Virginia mix. I talked to P&C and they exchanged it for me without hassle even tho I got it in June. They realize we often don't fire it up right away...

This is how a tractor pipe results...

Started working on a big stacked egg, got part way thru the bowl turning, and this huge briar  fault showed up. After a few 4 letter anglo-saxonism, I decided to keep going for practice and finish it, smoke it on my tractor.  Too bad, it would have been a nice pipe. First pic is the flaw after I...

Anyone bough tbulk HH Latakia flake recently?

Reason for asking is because I have a recently bought (about 6 weeks) lb of this and it's been driving me nuts that it tastes nothing like the tins I had. I finally hit me today--it tastes like Virginia. No latakia. I believe that McC mislabeled Old Dark fired as latakia flake. Anyone else...

    Finished pipe #3

Well, here's some pics of my latest effort, #3.  #2 was a disaster due to a tool slip resulting in a cracked shank. I like this one, I like stacks, and this one is amusing to me.  My Iron Horse pipe, it resembles the old mid 19th century locomotive stacks, like the famous " general".  I thought...

    Red Rapparee question

Question for all you English/ /Balkan lovers. How do you like Rattray's red Rapparee. I like both heavy and light Balkans, favs are 10 Russians, Byzantium, Squadron leader, Odyssey, HH vintage syrian, Skiff mixture, Gawith balkan blend . Thought I'd try RR, but I only find it in 100 gm...

    A convertible Savinelli

A recent savinelli restoration I did. I also turned up a stem extension with accent bands  to make it a convertible church warden, and the balsa filter can go in the top or bottom (or both   )

    My heavy duty tenon turner

Well, I figured  why buy a $70.00 tenon turning tool With lousy adjustment capabilities when I had a multi kilobuck milling machine? So, a mill and a boring tool with the  bit turned around does the job on tenons that aren't  regular enough to go in  the lathe. Sorry the pic wound up sideways

    Vintage Syrian improvement...

Well, I love the flavor of McBaren H&H Vintage Syrian, but I find it bites unless very carefully dried and pipe carefully selected. Had a thought, tried it out, and voila, what a tobacco! I added about 15 % C&D granulated Perique and pressed it lightly for about a week; the bite is gone and the...

Anyone Know where to find Smyrna Tobacco?

Hello all-- While playing around blending, I've found that Smyrna is one of the keys to a good Balkan Blend. Unfortunately, the only source I found for blending Smyrna is the P&C blending tobacco offers, and they're out for who knows how long. I know McClelland has Smyrna #1, but thats a blend...

    Opening or improving draw hint

For all those who would like to smooth out or enlarge the draft hole in the stem, particularly if re-shaping the slot at the bit, I've come up with a fairly convenient method I thought I'd share. Abrasive cord is the answer. The prime maker of such stuff is Mitchel's abrasives. It's...

    Surprise--a Corncob

Well, after 40 years of pipe smoking on and off, now back with a PAD/TAD vengeance, thanks to you boys here extolling the virtues of corncobs, I finally bought a couple. I figured you all couldn't be wrong , so -- what the hell, should be good on my tractor while mowing my field. Better to drop...

Hello from old new member in PA

Greetings all--recently returned to pipe smoking after a 20 year lazy spell smoking cigars. smoked pipes for 20 years before that. Don't know why it took me so long to return to my senses. It had to oocur to me that 3 premium cigars a day is damn expensive and could cause me to outlive my...
