    Update on Tom

Hi everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know Tom will be moving to a hospice facility in the next few days. He needs full time medical care at this point and we recognize that family can't provide the support he needs. Thanks again for all your very kind notes and emails. On a different...

    Update

Hi everyone. This is Tom's wife Lori . Tom asked me to update everyone as his cancer has returned and he's currently undergoing a new treatment regimen. It appears the cancer has come back very aggressively and we are crossing our fingers the treatment that worked so well last time will work...

    Back At It

Hi Everyone. My apologies for the radio silence. My Mum has been in the hospital after going into septic shock, a long spell with a tracheostomy and ventilator, and finally to rehab today. Been a long 6 weeks and during the second week I was diagnosed with pneumonia. Everybody is feeling better...

    Test Results

Just wanted to let everyone know my latest results came back with no sign of the cancer. Pretty remarkable and we are going to celebrate with a weekend trip away. I feel extraordinarily lucky to be alive and fortunate to have gotten to know so many wonderful people on these boards. Thanks again...

    Latest Test Results

The treatment regimen continues to work far better than anyone though. As part of the new field of immunotherapies my new clonal antibody seems to be working incredibly well. My cancer numbers are down roughly 94% since we began treatment. Side effects from the drug interactions are not great...

    Health Care

I want to be right up front that this isn't a woe is me posting. I have much to be thankful for and feel extraordinarily lucky! Since beginning my treatments, my health care insurance provider has fought every step of the way to cover my treatments. I've now spent roughly $700,000 for medical...

    Back Home

Hey guys. Well this is something I never thought I'd see again and is the first time I've cried since being diagnosed. Very thankful to be home and Braddach is happy to spend the evening with me. I know I've still got a struggle ahead but I'm ready to keep battling. Thanks for all your prayers...

    Got My Results Back

And they were superb. The combination of PD-1 and Sprycel drove my numbers down 91%. The doctors and I were quite shocked. Happy but shocked. As a last ditch measure we never hoped for such results. I will head home this weekend and continue treatment for the next 6 weeks and have lab work done...

    Latest Update

We were excited to find out my bloodwork showed another big gain against the cancer. I am technically out of blast phase (the final - and usually fatal stage of the disease) with better numbers across the board. Still very tired with usual side effects but nothing I can't deal with going...

    Start of Third Week

I just wanted to let everyone know we had a small success related to my blood work late this week. We weren't expecting it and the doctors are pleasantly surprised. So, much like Gandalf at the Bridge of Khazad-dûm I will keep the enemy at bay while I know a whole host of Brothers stand behind...

    Second Week Up and Running

Hey guys. Just wanted to let you know labs came back mixed. The new regimen is clearly doing something but we're just not sure it will be enough. This week should tell us if we can get enough critical mass to overcome the onset of blast phase. While it doesn't look great I figure each day gives...

    First Week Down

Hey guys. Just wanted to let everyone know I've completed my first week's treatment. As Teddy Roosevelt would say, I'm feeling bully. Next week we should get a first look at results and see if we got this thing on the run. Thanks for all your notes. They mean a lot. Hope everyone is having a...

    Checking In

Hey Gang. Just wanted to check in say hello to everyone. My new life consists of IVs, staring out the window, and reading on my iPad but can't complain. Hope everyone is surviving the winter. No pipes in here but enjoy reading everyone's updates. See you soon. Tom

    New weekly Articles

While I was sick I was asked to write a weekly column for the website GuruFocus. It's an amazing resource for value investors of the Graham/Buffett pedigree. I flatter myself to think people may enjoy the writing but it's more likely to be used as a treatment for long term insomnia or similar...

    Film Star

I'm taking part in a film which will be called "Cancer 2.0" about the new treatments of cancer. Part of my segment is about the medications I take each day. Between my cancer and other diseases I take 47 pills, 6 injections, and test 4 times a day. Total cost: $123,670 annually. It's pretty...

    Apologies

Hey guys. I've been offline for the couple of months with health issues and been away from the Boards. Several of you were very kind to send PMs and check in. Just wanted to say I'm happy to be back among a tremendous group of people. Best - Tom

    A Remarkable Quote

I came across this quote in the journal from Dana Farber. I thought it really captured the emotions of anybody going through cancer treatments. I still have to take my dosages three times a day for the rest of my life and there are day like this where the writing rings oh so true...

    Successful ReCert

Successfully completed my Wilderness EMT recert for the first time since I was diagnosed with my cancer. Going to celebrate with a 1966 BBR Springbank and a bowl of Frog Morton's Cellar in my Tsuge Ikebana Smooth Apple. A glorious day to be alive and active.

    Charatan

I was on eBay and saw this Charatan Acorn. It captured my eye but I was wondering about the "xxx'd" out name. Was this common for the brand? Not knowing enough, I thought I'd check with the experts...
